In contrast to the approach taken in Facade, Interzone, does not aim to delve into inner psyches, but rather examines nomenclature and systems of classification and categorisation.
The world is organised by naming and categorizing, while areas of art practice become increasingly blurred.
-Numerical judgments communicate with machines while adjectives are used by humans.
The title of the exhibition is derived from international zone, as the twelve participating artists are based internationally. Interzone is a place replete with in-betweens and somewhere that attempts to describe the arbitrary nature of labelling things and the set-up of our knowledge systems.
GALLERY-33 was founded in April 2006 by artist Christa-Mayke Turnbull, and offers emerging and mid-career UK educated artists the opportunity to exhibit in Berlin-Mitte. The artists working with GALLERY-33 have diverse practices but all produce work that is innovative, exiting and often possessing a bleak sensibility.
