Rosalux the Berlin-based art space

“Auf der Suche nach den 7 Weisen” is a research of 7.I built an installation, in seven parts, as the begin of the project.

I mind-mapped my memory together with internet­ based human collective information and knowledge, in order to produce a series of performance art. I begin from a group of Chinese Daoists, scholars, writers, and musicians of the 3rd century CE called “Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove”, and reflect them to “Seven Sages of Greece”, both in eastern and western mythology, such as seven archangels and demons, seven days of a week and planets, seven deadly sins and virtues, Chinese medical thought “QiQiao”, seven entrance of human body, or body­“Feng Shui“, to link them by my interpretation, to feel my imagination and connections.

I then presented following seven pieces with a time schedule during the performance event on the 15th April in the project room Rosalux in Wedding.

7:30 Jupiter: Seven easy pieces (not hard)

A reflection of Marina Abramovic’s “Seven Easy Pieces” as an opening piece, as the answer to one of the seven virtues “Temperance“. Do reenactment in minimalistic conceptual art should minimise the concept too and to have an almost­ empty state of mind. Question about complex concept in minimalistic art ironically. As the result, seven times of “Body Pressure” from Bruce Nauman was presented.

8:15: Saturn: Langue and parole

The terms mean “language” and “speaking”, I interpret as the rules of communication and the steps we do. I relate this to the true nature “Hope” and to the creature Behemoth, I design a game with voodoo dolls which there’s no hope to beat me, by using mathematical tricks on dice, to create a “perfect trick”. The order to choose dice, is the secrete to win, when the participants take this as a generosity or fairness from me to choose dice first. The numbers on the dice are: 2,4,3,6,3,3; 5,4,1,3,4,4; 2,2,2,5,5,5.

9:00 Mercury: 5 hard pieces (left)

This piece I lay my body on five rocks and three mirrors. The contradictory between fragility and hardness. When moving body on rocks on the surface of mirrors everybody expects the break of the mirror or the harm to the body, but at the end none of these happen, I decide to break forcibly one piece of mirror as the answer.

9:45: Sun: Glory hole

In one cabin I fill up with different things, to make a “glory hole” in the meaning of “forgotten corner”, with a strong spotlight inside. I first remove the mind­mapping collage on the door, give them to audience one by one, and then I project my body image on the door by drawing with a marker. I ask audience to shoot the door by darts, I mark them, drill holes, saw bigger holes, and hide myself behind the door as a sculptural piece.

10:30: Moon: Gesamte Universum ist mein Zuhause

This piece refers to a citation of Liu­ling, one of the “Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove”, "I see the earth and skies as my home, and this room as my pants. What are you, gentlemen, doing in my pants?" With a huge box, where I install a disco light and a 7 ­channel surround sound system, I invite people to visit me in the box where they only see my lower body without pants, while my upper body is well dressed and I am mixing music as a DJ generating house music for the visitors.

11:15: Mars: o.t.

This is a music piece, I chained my both hands, holding four mallets to play a wooden box as an instrument. The chain produces a lot of noise which disturbs the sound and it is hard to control. This is a diary from my musical training for ten years, practices every day for eight hours to keep up a skill I might lose if I forget to train for one day, and keep an image for on stage, has less intuition and more acting.

The piece experiments the part of brain between the sensual part and the logical part, I use Diogenes of Sinope as a reference, when he masturbates in front of people in the market place. I put on an old oil lamp in the dark, while I pleasure myself, I keep lecturing about my life, performance art, music training, relationship break up by no more curiosity, how the ejaculation can create a borderline between friends. At the end I notice that my mind cannot go to the stage of orgasm and refuse to ejaculate, and I finish the piece.

Postscript:

These seven pieces are the result of this research, and the research is based on the context where, how, with whom I am, with my interpretation of the world, I try not to think, what are “correct” or “wrong” in it, follow by intuition and link them to my creation, the end result is like using the theme(s) as a mirror, to reflect what I am and reveal in different angles and forms, confront to the public.
